The Cape Town LCE Dialogue Forum

Planning for a Low Carbon City

10-12 November 2009, Cape Town, South Africa

From 10 – 12 November 2010, the Dialogue Forum on “Low Carbon Cities LCCC” took place in Cape Town. The Dialogue Forum was co-organized by the City of Cape Town, InWEnt – Capacity Building International and INTELARC – Intelligent Architecture & Urbanism/Rio de Janeiro. Due to the cooperation with the city government of Cape Town it was possible to organize a joint event with the World Townplanning Day – chapter Cape Town, focusing on spatial planning in the context of Low Carbon Cities. So the first two days were officially part of the World Townplanning Day, where several members of the LCCC group contributed with presentations, while the third day was a closed session of the LCCC group and some additional local experts, mostly from the City government.

It was the third issue-specific Forum of a long-term dialogue process on the prospects for a Low Carbon Economy (LCE). This process was initiated by InWEnt on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in 2008 and includes participates from Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South-Africa (anchor countries) and Germany. All participating countries are directly affected and/or play an important role in the climate change process. The objective of the dialogue Forum is to discuss local challenges and approaches in an international context, creating a platform for mutual learning and development of joint strategies to mitigate climate change.
